Cisco Excursion with dinner, hosted by Cisco.

We drive by bus (leaves from Rica Ishavshotell at 19:00 sharp) out to a beautiful beach on Sommarøya where we will enjoy dinner, entertainment and North-Norwegian nature at it's best. At about 23:30 we head back to the city by express boat. Hopefully we'll see the midnight sun on the way back as we plan to arrive in Tromsø again at 00:15.

WEDNESDAY JULY 1ST - SEMINAR DAY

Multimedia Services for Research and Education
Seminar chair: Geir Pedersen, NewLearning AS

This seminar will provide insight into the current status for IETF and ITU protocols based real time multimedia services on the Internet. The seminar includes short presentations of several interesting international research and pilot projects employing this technology for learning and collaboration. The seminar is structured as a series of presentations covering

  • ITU and IETF protocols for real time conferencing
  • Network aspects including multicast and resource reservation
  • Deployment aspects including bandwidth requirements, router and end-system support
  • Available applications for the most common platforms
  • Examples of current research and piloting projects

There will be time for discussions with the presenters. Documentation will be provided in the form of hand outs and a web-site with annotated links to relevant places on the web. A time limited electronic distribution list including the participants and presenters will be set up for continued discussions after the close of the seminar.
